Martin Freeman, da Baker Street alla Terra di Mezzo

Sembrano passati secoli da quanto Sherlock, la serie di culto della BBC, ha fatto il suo debutto sul primo canale britannico lanciando le carriere dei suoi protagonisti e proiettandole nel mondo del cinema: spesso del tutto identificato con le vertiginose deduzioni dell'affascinante detective interpretato da Benedict Cumberbatch, il successo della formula creata da Steven Moffat e Mark Gatiss  non sarebbe però stato lo stesso senza la presenza di Martin Freeman, impeccabile John Watson e adesso pronto a tornare nei cinema di tutto il mondo il 12 dicembre con Lo Hobbit - la Desolazione di Smaug, secondo capitolo del nuovo franchise tolkieniano curato e diretto da Peter Jackson.

Martin John Christopher Freeman nasce ad Aldershot ( Hampshire) l'8 settembre 1971, ultimo di 5 figli: dopo la separazione dei genitori avvenuta quando aveva appena 5 anni Martin va a vivere con il padre, ma la morte improvvisa di quest'ultimo pochi anni dopo getta un'ulteriore ombra sull'infanzia del bambino, già fragile e asmatico; come prevedibile, questa perdita segnerà Freeman per il resto della vita e condizionerà forse anche il rapporto con una credo religioso che rimarrà per lui, cresciuto in una famiglia di cattolici osservanti e mandato in scuole salesiane fino agli anni dell'università, un'incancellabile certezza.
